Here are some frequently asked questions and information that can help you with your planning.
Everyone tells me I need a website, that I need to be online. Why?
More and more, customers are shopping, researching, reading reviews while they’re online. Nowadays, this is being done while mobile. If you’re offering a service, word of mouth gets a boost if people learn more about you from your website, where they can access your content, hire you or order products from you online. Have a brick and mortar store? Increase sales to your physical location while making your products available online. The opportunities to boost your business are endless.
How much does a website cost?
The cost of a website varies. It depends on what your goals are and what features you need to include. Some website projects can start in the $2,000 – $3,000 range and range upward depending on your needs. If you need a complex site created I can refer you to some incredible trusted WordPress site creators. A super simple WordPress site can be as low as $500.
How long does it take to design and build a website?
The time needed to create a website ties in with the scope of your site and the features required. It depends on the availability and quality of content you have for your website. It also depends on how available you are to have check-ins to approve milestones along the way.
A great website needs great content. A website build goes much more smoothly when there is content to work with. I create content for clients who need help verbalizing their work. I also rewrite content for new web projects.
Remember, the longer it takes to review and sign off on milestones, the longer it takes to build and deliver your website! No one would open a brick and mortar store with empty shelves, and a website can’t launch with blank pages and no content, or worse, bad content!
What’s a Care Plan?
Your website needs monthly maintenance, monitoring and backups. It also needs fresh content. That content may just be new copy or heavy on new copy and images. You may decide up front there’s value in having someone take care of this for you. You may decide to DIY after going live and realize you need help and don’t have the time. The bottom line, your website shouldn’t become stagnant once it’s launched. We offer care plans to our customers to meet their different needs to make life easy for you.
Do I need my own domain name and web hosting?
Yes! If you already have a web service provider I’ll make sure you are setup properly. If not I’ll help you work with a reputable web hosting company.
When you’re promoting your business, you’d rather use an email address with your domain. If you haven’t registered a domain I’ll help you do that too. I’ve met many small business owners who were “held hostage” because they didn’t have the login information to access their website or hosting service. What kind of partnership is that?
What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
A Content Management System allows you to maintain the pages of your website, without having to get lost in coding. A CMS allows you to edit and add pages, images, products or blog entries to your website. WordPress is my preferred solution and I can show you the ropes if you’re invested in Squarespace.
Do you provide training?
Yes we provide our clients with training on maintaining their website. We like our clients to feel confident and knowledgeable about what they can update on their website.
Can you help me with Social Media Marketing
Absolutely. As part of your project I can recommend social media strategies and options. You don’t need to use every social media channel, it’s better to target a channel or two and focus, get really good at it and make an impact.
What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
Search Engine Optimisation is all about getting your website higher up in the search results on search engines such as Google. The higher up the results you are the more traffic (and customers) you’re likely to get.
There are many aspects that go into achieving good SEO, and one of the most important is the content on your website. Well written, keyword rich relevant content is the key, and no keyword stuffing!
Do you write the content for my site?
We don’t write your content. As a separate service can produce content for you. If you need help with this we can provide a quote for copywriting services.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is your address on the internet. Typically this would be something like yourcompany.com.au
What is web hosting?
Web hosting is a service that allows your website to be viewed on the Internet. It’s basically a computer housed in a data centre that runs your website and email.
